Edwin Wins

Since Edwin, one of my favorite colleagues, is leaving after six months to join his old company again, I've written this duosyllabic (or whatever) poem for him. Basically Ed has a lot of potential. Whether or not his move to his previous company is a good one I don't know. But one thing is for sure, for now Ed wins. The poem of course is in Dutch.

Edwin
begint
bij BOOM
als kind

concept
verzint
ontwerp
ontgint

het vak
bemint
de kunst
verslindt

verschiet
geen tint
verdient
een lint!

Daarnaast
een grind-
ing groove
ontspint

Wij kre-
gen wind
zonder
een hint:

Edwin
hervindt
Nilsson
als vrind

De wond
verbind:
schenk ons
een pint

Hoe BOOM
ook sprint
't is Ed
die wint!

Soms wil ik
langzaam op het dak
kijken tot de einder
afgelopen is

Dan loop ik naar de kraan
en was mijn hoofd
weer vol vergetelheid
en doedingen

Dan ga ik aan de slag
en sla de ogen op
sla de weg in
op weg naar de verte

Every start has a beginning

I've never been good at diaries and the like. Poetry, yes, but writing my heart out? Forget it! Yet, there is rationale behind keeping a blog, I suppose. It is not a diary. It is not about expounding my inner me to the world. As if anybody is dying to know how my personality is developing.

A blog is a way of learning to be opinionated and developing a writing skill while at the same time potentially interacting with other like-minded or not so like-minded people on a certain subject. In addition to that there is probably no better way to effectively practice writing English as a second language. In short, blogging is about acquiring skills, being in dialogue, while it stops short of publishing.

Let's see where this is headed. Every start has a beginning. And whether or not it's a false start will never be known without it.
